On Super Bowl Sunday, while millions of Americans were gearing up for the big game, The Rotary Club of Tallahassee was making an impact on a different kind of playing field—the fight against opioid overdoses. Just like in football, where teamwork, preparation, and strategy are key to victory, our club is working together to tackle the opioid crisis by providing essential training in Naloxone administration.

At First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, February 9th, Rotarians Alasdair Roe and Mariah Kill, experts in Naloxone training, led a crucial session for a dedicated group of individuals on the front lines of this crisis. This group, already committed to feeding and providing hygiene for the homeless, had access to Narcan and Naloxone but lacked the training to identify and properly assist those suffering from an overdose. Our Rotary program equipped them with the knowledge and confidence to recognize the signs of an overdose, engage with individuals in crisis, administer the medication effectively, call 911, and ensure patients are left in the recovery position—a vital step in preventing further harm.

As overdose deaths continue to occur, initiatives like this are more important than ever. The Rotary Club of Tallahassee, in partnership with the Rotary Action Group Addiction Prevention North America and Hikma Pharmaceuticals, is stepping up to defend our community against this crisis. With their support, we've been able to train numerous community members to administer Kloxxado, a new and more effective form of Naloxone.
Much like a game-winning play, Kloxxado is a game-changer in overdose prevention. It works faster, lasts longer, and is even more effective at reversing overdoses and saving lives. The training itself is quick and straightforward, taking just under an hour to ensure participants feel confident and prepared to respond in an emergency.
In football, victory comes from preparation, teamwork, and quick action under pressure. The same principles apply in the fight against opioid overdoses. Thanks to the efforts of our Rotary Club and community partners, we’re giving people the tools they need to step up and save lives—one person at a time.
